They asked us to contact so I did,and here's a copy of the e-mail I sent them:
Hello,
maybe you should've put some pink in the flag too - you mustn't foreget the gay community.Perhaps some brown for Indians, yellow for Chinese, green for Irish and maybe some..........
Yours, laughing my arse off, Mike. |

Black features in flags all round the world but no more in white countries than black countries. African flags are mainly made up of traditional African colours - green, yellow, red. Asian flags tend to be more greens and reds. Caribbean flags are usually either British Ensign's, very artistic or the traditional African colours. The main ones that have a lot of black are (off the top of my head ... sad I know):
Belgium, Egypt and Germany. Black isn't a very popular choice as a major part of a flag. _________________ English first, British second

Belgium, Germany, I think Estonia has black on it's flag too but it isn't a very popular choice of flag colour. I think a few Arab countries (Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, Syria, Jordan) that do off the top of my head but cant think of many other tho _________________ Political Correctness is a school of thought for those who lack the ability to think for themselves |

I read somewhere that some countries I'm not sure where, but I think Africa, had red in their flags once they became independent because a neighbouring country that had never been under colonial rule had it. _________________ Make the squeaking stop!!!! |

I've just fired one off:
This is a joke, right? You say "A number of countries around the globe have black in their flags to represent the colour of their people." What, like Belgium and Germany? And our Union flag does not use its colours to represent the colour of its inhabitants, does it? Where are the blue people and the red people in Great Britain? Your claim is nonsense, as is your ludicrously PC campaign. If this idea had come from a load of idealistic schoolkids, I could at least pat them on the head, safe in the knowledge that they'd soon grow up - the worrying thing about you lot is that you are grown-ups (in theory).

The colours of the Union Flag have nothing to do with the people that live here. However, you could draw that conclusion - white ... duh! blue - the Scots used to paint themselves blue all over way back (as reported by some Roman emperor or other); red ... ummmmmm ... sunburnt tourists on the plane back from the Costa Del Scut?
The Union Flag is unlikely to get changed - that is certainly something the government wouldn't (possibly couldn't) legislate on. The Union Flag was created by royal proclamation. _________________ English first, British second
